Supporting, promoting and fostering the industry

Strategies for the future

ACLH’s close alliance with the industry through their organisation members have enabled the organisation to develop strategies to move the industry into the future.  These strategies include:

  • To provide industry training and development
  • To initiate and pursue projects which define and quantify the industry’s economic, social and environmental value
  • To continue to focus on water use efficiency research development and extension activities to address the water crisis
  • The development, testing and commercialisation of new/improved products (including information and service products) to meet changing industry and consumer demands.
  • To continue to work to address the environmental problems associated with doing business in the industry as well as actively identify and promote the industry’s substantial role in being part of the environmental solution.
  • To continue to support research and development investment in the production sectors and where appropriate collaborate in   projects that will have positive benefits down the entire supply chain
  • facilitate the development and implementation of supply chain research in order to improve market access, domestic sales and export development.

ACLH is already implementing these strategies and will continue over the next five years to reach their objectives.  For more detailed information see our research and development strategy

ACLH with the support of the Queensland and Australian Government and the horticultural industry have prepared and released an export strategy to assist businesses to enter the global marketplace, particularly with China and Singapore who are demanding horticultural services and products.   Japan is a steady importer of foliage and flowers. With the complete support of a committed and motivated sub committee who remain focussed on identifying export opportunities the vision is for the lifestyle horticulture industry to be the leading exporter of tropical and subtropical lifestyle products and services. In addition ACLH is working with government through initiatives such as:

  • An Education campaign called Smart Gardening Start Gardening to educate the Queensland community about waterwise gardening.
  • A project with the Queensland Government, through Water Industry Regulation, Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM),the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries and the Queensland Water Commission (QWC) which will develop best practice guidelines for garden irrigation.
